Silver Ashtrays

An ashtray is a receptacle for ash and butts from cigarettes and cigars. Ashtrays are typically made of fireproof material such as glass, heat-resistant plastic, pottery, or metal and for the elite, silver was a popular choice.

During the late Victorian era and early twentieth century, silver ashtrays were used in gentlemen's clubs, hotels and stately homes. Some of the designs on these silver ashtrays were extremely elaborate and are very collectable items.

Silver ashtrays for cigars tend to be bigger than those made for cigarettes. Dutch silver ashtrays make excellent collectables as the designs are very unique and almost tell a story.

Art Nouveau ashtrays and Art Deco ashtrays are also very popular. Art Nouveau ashtray designs tend to be flowing while the Art Deco ashtrays are very geometric.
